TAG-Confucius Institute Celebrates Both Dragon Boat Festival and International Children’s Day

This year, the Dragon Boat Festival coincided with International Children’s Day. To celebrate this special occasion where tradition met childhood joy, TAG-Confucius Institute (TAG-CI) meticulously planned and carried out a series of creative double-festival celebrations from May 31 to June 2, vividly conveying the unique charm of traditional Chinese culture to the students in a joyful and warm atmosphere.

In the video learning session, the teacher introduced the origin and traditional customs of the Dragon Boat Festival and organized the students to watch a festival-theme video, allowing them to gain an intuitive understanding of traditional festival activities such as dragon boat racing, hanging mugwort, wearing sachets, eating zongzi (rice dumplings), etc. While watching, the students also learned relevant Chinese vocabulary.

The children were especially fascinated by the dragon boat races, enthusiastically cheering for their favorite teams, creating a lively and warm atmosphere. Afterwards, the teachers tied five-color threads around the students’ wrists, symbolizing protection from evil spirits and disasters, adding a sense of ritual to the festival.

In the hands-on experience session, the students from both the adult and youth classes participated in the “weaving zongzi” craft activity, which not only enhanced their practical skills but also deepened their understanding of the festival’s cultural significance.

Meanwhile, the children’s class used paintbrushes to creat Dragon Boat Festival-themed decorative paintings and crafted colorful “Dragon Boat Racing” pendants, showcasing their creativity and playful spirit.

The most popular activity among the students was the “Zongzi Blind Box Guessing Game”. The teacher specially prepared a mysterious “Zongzi Blind Box” for the children’s class.

The children earned the chance to open the blind box by correctly answering questions related to the Dragon Boat Festival, which helped them review what they had learned while enjoying the excitement of winning exquisite small gifts. Each time a box was opened, the cheers and exclamations of surprise erupted in the room, creating an atmosphere of joy and laughter.

The double-festival celebration not only allowed students to learn about and experience traditional Chinese culture in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, but also created warm and lasting memories during this special festival.

TAG-CI will continue to be committed to organizing creative and heartfelt cultural events to make Chinese learning more fun, loving and empowering!
