TAG-Confucius Institute Holds “China Cultural Day” at Al-Balqa Applied University

On December 18, TAG-Confucius Institute (TAG-CI) and China Cultural Center in Amman jointly held “Chinese Culture Day” at Al-Balqa Applied University. The event was attended by Dr. Khaled Al-Zoubi, Vice President of Al-Balqa Applied University; Mr. Zhao Xiaoqiang, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Jordan and Director of China Cultural Center in Amman; Ms. Reem Husein, Consultant for Educational and Cultural Exchange in Jordan; teachers from TAG-CI; as well as more than 190 faculty members and students of the university.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Zhao Xiaoqiang noted that the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China emphasized China’s continued commitment to advancing Chinese modernization. He also stated that 2026 will mark the first year of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, and that the second China–Arab States Summit will be held in China. Taking these opportunities as a starting point, China stands ready to further deepen practical cooperation with Al-Balqa Applied University and other Jordanian universities in the fields of Chinese language education and people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
TAG-CI teachers presented a variety of Chinese cultural activities including tea ceremony, calligraphy, paper cutting, and painting, which attracted enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students.
Accompanied by Mr. Zhao Xiaoqiang, Dr. Khaled Al-Zoubi visited the cultural booths and had warm and friendly exchanges with TAG-CI teachers. He sampled Chinese tea, read Chinese names under the guidance of the teachers, enjoyed the art of paper cutting, and appreciated traditional Chinese paintings, all in a lively and cordial atmosphere.

During the event, many students were attracted by the beauty of TAG-CI teachers who appeared in traditional Chinese costumes and eager to take photos with them. Ms. Reem Husein shared her personal experiences from visits to China, highlighting China’s achievements in economic and social development as well as the vibrant growth of its cultural and tourism sectors, further enhancing participants’ understanding of contemporary China.
This event marked the first time that Chinese culture was introduced to Al-Balqa Applied University. Through diverse and interactive activities, students gained an initial understanding of Chinese culture and demonstrated strong interest. The university expressed its hope to carry out more people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cooperation with TAG-CI in the future.
