‘Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute’ Participates in the 2024 World Chinese Language Conference in Beijing

BEIJING – Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute (TAG-Confucius), a member of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), has participated in the 2024 World Chinese Language Conference, recently organized by the Chinese International Education Foundation (CIEF) and China’s Ministry of Education under the theme “Interconnection, Integration, Inheritance, Innovation”. The Institute was represented by Mr. Mamoun Abu Al-Sebaa, TAG-Confucius executive director, and Dr. Yang Songfang, dean of the Institute.
During the Conference, Chinese President Xi Jinping had sent a congratulatory letter to all participants, on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Confucius Institutes. The letter was delivered by the Vice President of China Mr. Han Zheng during the opening ceremony, which gathered over 2000 participants from more than 160 countries worldwide; all home to Confucius Institutes.
The letter from  President Xi had stated that  “Language is a tool for human beings to exchange thoughts, a carrier for inheriting civilization, and a bridge for enhancing understanding. The Chinese language, which encapsulates the millennia-old wisdom of the Chinese nation, is an important public cultural product that China has contributed to the world”.
The president’s letter also emphasized that international Chinese education is widely popular, demonstrating the charm of openness and inclusiveness, showcasing the value of mutual learning and appreciation, embodying the spirit of win-win cooperation, and crystallizing the shared efforts of people from China and abroad.
The Chinese President expressed his hope that the World Chinese Language Conference will break new grounds while upholding fundamental principles; enhance interconnection and integration; build consensus among all parties and strive to build bridges of lingual connectivity, understanding, mutual trust, and mutual learning between civilizations, thus making new and greater contributions to jointly building a community with a shared future for mankind.

For his part, Mr. Abu Al-Sebaa said: “This year marks the 16th anniversary of establishing TAG-Confucius, which was launched back in 2008 under the guidance of HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh. It is the first institute globally established for teaching the Chinese language and culture in partnership between the Chinese government, the private sector, and Shenyang Normal University. This comes in line with Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh’s belief in the importance of Chinese language as the language of business, finance, and technology of the future.”
He added that  “President Xi Jinping’s letter was deeply inspiring, as it underlined the importance of language teaching in linking cultural gaps and advocated for global participation in efforts to build a more connected and harmonious world. The letter emphasized the themes of the Conference, aligning with global trends toward more integrated and cooperative international relations.”
Mr. Abu Al-Sebaa further affirmed that the Chinese President speech  serves as a roadmap for TAG-Confucius in the coming years, as it encourages continuous innovation in teaching while remaining rooted in the traditions and values of Chinese culture and civilization.
It is worth mentioning that Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute (TAG- Confucius) was established in September 2008 through a cooperation agreement between Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global) and Confucius Institute Headquarters in China. It aims to promote the Chinese language and culture, as well as fostering better mutual understanding between Arab and Chinese cultures.
