TAG-Confucius Organizes 1st Winter Camp for Children

 

  AMMAN-More than 15 students representing various schools in Jordan took part in the first winter camp organized by Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute (TAG-Confucius).

The Camp introduced students to the wonderful world of Chinese language and culture through covering key subjects such as introduction to China and its culture, happy Chinese class and experiencing Chinese culture and traditions.

Participants enjoyed educational videos and a lecture that gave a detailed depiction of life in China and the history of Chinese traditions and culture by Director Yang Songfang.

Students learned the basic use of Chinese words and simple greetings phrases and numbers that they can use on daily basis.

In addition, paper-cutting and paper-folding, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese movies, chopsticks use, Chinese painting, tea ceremony, traditional Chinese games like shuttlecock, jumping rope, tangram puzzle, balloon, taiji, traditional Chinese costumes, Chinese songs and music, Chinese new year performance, Chinese stories, Peking opera, Chinese zodiac, Chinese poems, Chinese dance, delicious Chinese food like jiaozi (dumplings), Chinese noodles, Chinese pancake were introduced to participants.

Ms. Yang Songfang said that students made great achievements in the winter camp and enjoyed a better understanding of China and Chinese culture hoping that they would keep the enthusiasm for Chinese language and culture and welcomed them back to TAG-Confucius Institute to continue their study.

Parents were also invited to join the camp and learn more about Chinese culture and traditions.

The Training Officer Ms. Randa Al-Yabroudi hosted the closing ceremony. She said: “We are happy to have this successful experience of conducting this winter Camp for the Children and the experience of Recognition the Chinese language and the wonders of China's traditions and culture, and we will work on the continuity of holding such camps and activities for the children of the institute.

Director of TAG-Confucius Institute Mr. Mamoun Abu Al-Sebaa said that TAG-CI team was very delighted to host the kids for three weeks and we will miss them a lot. He also added that this Winter Camp was an idea that came up suddenly to our minds and we decided to try it for the first time in TAG-CI and after the success we achieved, we decided to make it an annual event for the kids.

The winter camp was organized during the winter vacation of Jordanian schools and aimed at giving Jordanian children an access to Chinese language and culture to stimulate their interest in Chinese language and culture so that they can become the ambassadors of cultural exchange between China and Jordan.

TAG-Confucius Institute will continue to conduct such events in future.
