Celebrates the 10^th Anniversary of Confucius Institute

AMMAN - 28 October 2014, Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute (TAG- Confucius) celebrated the 10^th Anniversary of Confucius Institute under the patronage of HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh and the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Jordan HE Mr. Gao Yusheng.

The celebration, inaugurated by Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh, included folkloric dance that was presented by the Orchestra of Shenyang University.

At the ceremony, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his keenness to enhance partnership and cooperation in the educational field and cultural relations between China and the Arab world, which date back to two thousand years.

Dr. Abu Ghazaleh explained that the establishment of TAG – Confucius Institute came as a result of the outstanding and unique cooperation between Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization and Confucius Institute in China to promote the Chinese language and culture,. He stated that the Center is the accredited official center to teach the Chinese language in Jordan, and that the Chinese language will be of the most prominent languages in the world.

Abu Ghazaleh said, "We at TAG-Confucius work on implementing diverse programs, activities, and consultations that enrich our distinguished relations. We will increase these programs inside and outside Jordan to reflect our historical ties."

For his part, HE the Chinese Ambassador warmly congratulated Talal Abu- Ghazaleh Organization and commended the efforts of Dr. Abu- Ghazaleh over the last 10 years to spread the Chinese culture and enhance the relations between China and Jordan. His Excellency said, "Teaching the Chinese language through Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute contributes to more understanding of China, and there are increasing numbers of learners and scholars who study different disciplines." The Ambassador added, "The cultural and educational exchange is important to enhance our relations."

It is a comprehensive university teaching eight disciplines such as Philosophy, Economy, Law, Education, Arts and Sciences, Engineering Sciences, and Administrative Sciences. The University signed agreements for academic exchange and international cooperation with more than 30 universities, colleges, and institutes in the USA, England, Canada, Japan, Russia, Belgium, Denmark, Australia, and Korea.

It is worth mentioning that the Shenyang University Orchestra was established in 2004 and it is comprised of an elite professors and students specialized in drama, dance, and playing Chines traditional instruments. It toured many countries in the world including India, Djibouti, Korea, USA, Lebanon, Thailand, Hong Kong, and now Jordan through TAG – Confucius Institute.

Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute was established in September 2008 to promote the Chinese language and culture, in order to reach a better mutualunderstanding between the Arab and Chinese cultures. This is one-of-a-kind initiative based on the cooperation agreement between Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) and the Confucius Institute in China.

The Institute was named after Confucius, the world-renowned great thinker, educator and philosopher in Chinese history. Confucius' thoughts have influenced China and other areas in the world for nearly 2000 year.
