TAG-Confucius Institute Holds Chinese Culture Day
at Alliance Academy Jordan

On April 20, TAG-Confucius Institute (TAG-CI) was invited to Alliance Academy Jordan to hold a unique Chinese Culture Day event, which included a presentation of China, traditional Chinese costumes, brush calligraphy, sand writing, Chinese food, etc. About 170 people including the teachers and students from the Academy and the teachers from TAG-CI participated in the event.
At the beginning of the event, the teacher from TAG-CI made a presentation of China’s geographical location, major cities, famous architecture, cuisine, pandas, martial arts in an interesting way. Then the teacher displayed and the unique charm of Chinese characters through animation, allowing the participants to have an understanding of the origin and development of Chinese characters. The teacher also taught some simple Chinese expressions that aroused the students’ great interest.
After that came the cultural activities. At the traditional costume booth, the students put on traditional Chinese costume such as Han-style dress (or Hanfu) to experience the charm of ancient Chinese costume culture. At the calligraphy booth, the teacher chose and wrote Chinese names for the students with a brush as gifts. The students enthusiastically showed their Chinese names and said they would take them home to show to their family. Sand writing was a very creative activity. The students were very happy to write Chinese characters on the sand just like painting. At the handicraft booth, the students made beautiful plum blossom fans and lanterns, and their joy was beyond words. The experience of using chopsticks and tasting Chinese food was particularly popular with the students. They practiced using chopsticks to pick up color rubber balls and tasted Chinese food with chopsticks. Not only did they taste real Chinese food such as noodles and steamed buns, but also learned how to use chopsticks in a right way and felt the unique charm of Chinese cuisine culture.
The whole event ended successfully in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere. The teachers at the school expressed their thanks to TAG-CI teachers and hoped TAG-CI team could go to their campus again with unique cultural activities. The students were looking forward to the next Chinese culture event.
TAG-CI will continue to conduct Chinese culture events to provide the local people with a chance to understand and love the ancient and vibrant language and culture and promote friendly exchanges and mutual understanding between China and Jordan.
