TAG-Confucius Institute Holds the 15th Board Meeting

On May 16, TAG-Confucius Institute (TAG-CI) held the 15th Board meeting online, which was attended by Mr. Luay Abu-Ghazaleh, Vice Chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global) and Jordanian President of the Board of Directors of TAG-CI, Dr. Tong Yuping, Vice President of Shenyang Normal University (SNU) and Chinese President of the Board of Directors of TAG-CI, Mr. Mamoun Abu Al-Sebaa, Jordanian Director of TAG-CI, Dr. Yang Songfang, Chinese Director of TAG-CI, Mr. Ala Turaani, Executive Manager of TAGEPEDIA Knowledge, Mr. Zhang Wei, Director of the Office of International Chinese Language Education, Mr. Yang Baidong, Director of Finance Department, Mr. Li Feng, Dean of International Business School, and was chaired by Ms. Hu Bo, Deputy Director of the Office of International Chinese Language Education.

Dr. Tong Yuping, on behalf of Party Secretary Dr. Hao Deyong and President Dr. Yang Song of SNU, extended sincere greetings to all the members at the meeting, and thanked Mr. Luay Abu-Ghazaleh and Mr. Mamoun Abu Al-Sebaa for their support in the development and construction of TAG-CI and for their care for the Chinese personnel of TAG-CI. She said that with the strong support of TAG.Global and the efforts of all Chinese and Jordanian staff at the Institute, TAG-CI has successfully and excellently completed various teaching tasks and related work in 2022. Especially in the “Chinese Bridge” competition and the “CI Moment” global short video competition, TAG-CI has won many awards. She stated that 2023 marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of TAG-CI. 

Over the past 15 years, TAG-CI has always adhered to the educational philosophy of “Rooted in the local area, integrated into the local community, and serving the local people”, through various language courses, cultural brand projects and academic researches, it has met the diverse needs of the local Chinese learners, and has become a bridge and link to deepen the exchanges and cooperation in various fields between China and Jordan and promote mutual understanding between the two countries. She believed that with the strong support of TAG.Global, TAG-CI will achieve even more fruitful results.

Mr. Luay Abu-Ghazaleh, on behalf of TAG.Global, expressed sincere greetings to SNU and extended gratitude to the University for providing the excellent Chinese Director and amazing teachings for the development and construction of TAG-CI. He emphasized that with the joint efforts of both parties, the teaching and cultural events of TAG-CI have been conducted successfully. He stated that this year marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Institute. Over the past 15 years, TAG-CI has achieved remarkable results in various aspects, and he looked forward to continuing close cooperation with SNU in the next 15 years. He said that TAG.Global will as always support the development and construction of TAG-CI, exert its influence to promote the integration of Chinese language into the Jordanian national educational system.

Following that, Mr. Mamoun Abu Al-Sebaa and Dr. Yang Songfang reported in detail the Institute’s work in 2022, work plan for 2023, and budget and final accounts, including Chinese language teaching, cultural promotion, project implementation, academic research, management and mechanism construction. All the members of the Board fully affirmed the achievements of the TAG-CI, and Mr. Zhang Wei put forward practical suggestions for the work of TAG-CI in 2023. The members of the Board also discussed the 15th anniversary activities, faculty building, curriculum development, localized textbooks, digital education, and visiting groups to China. After deliberation, all the Board members expressed their approval of the 2022 work report and 2023 development plan of TAG-CI in principle.

In the concluding remarks, Mr. Luay Abu-Ghazaleh once again thanked the University for its support to the development and construction of TAG-CI and also expressed thanks to the two Directors Mr. Mamoun Abu Al-Sebaa and Dr. Yang Songfang for their hard work and dedication to the success of TAG-CI. He stated that the positive suggestions put forward by the Board members will be adopted in the work of TAG-CI in 2023. With the friendly partnership and close cooperation between SNU and TAG.Global, TAG-CI will be better and better.

TAG-CI provides a high-quality platform for local people to learn Chinese language and culture.” She also said that the great success of TAG-CI cannot be separated from the 15 years of friendship and cooperation, the strong support of TAG.Global and the joint efforts of all Chinese and Jordanian staff at the Confucius Institute. She firmly believed that through the unremitting efforts of both parties, TAG-CI will flourish and make new contributions to enhancing the friendship between the China and Jordan and promoting exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and Arab civilizations.
