TAGITop: Affordable Arabic Netbook to Promote Literacy
By Nicole Scott
In an effort to contribute to computer literacy in the Arab region, Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAGorg) introduced TAGITop, the first branded Arabic Netbook in the region. The netbook is looking to be priced at $400 USDD which is very high for a netbook, however they are looking for partnerships to lower the costs of the 1M units they are planning on distributing over the next five years. This is a non profit initiative so we are hoping that the initial projected costs decrease.
Specs of this 10 inch netbook are:
Processor: Intel Atom N470@1.83 GHz
• LCD: 10.1 “, 16:9, 1024 x 600
• HDD: 2.5 “, 320GB, 5400 rpm
• Memory: 2GB DDRII, up to 4G
• Webcam: 1.3M pixel
• Battery life: 6-cell, 2.6Ah (8.5 hrs)
• Keyboard: full size
• Glossy Chocolate color (UV Coated)
Both Windows 7 and Office 2010 in the Starter Editions are pre-installed, add to that more educational software and a dictionary.
