Amman - Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, the Chinese Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, His Excellency Mr. Pan Weifang, Talal Abu- Ghazaleh- Confucius Institute held a special ceremony to celebrate the Chinese New Year and the Spring Festival at Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum.
The ceremony was attended by Their Excellencies Ambassadors of the Republic of Venezuela, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Poland, the Federative Republic of Brazil, and H.E. the Ambassador of the Republic of Romania to Jordan, in addition to the First Secretary at the Iranian Embassy, the Acting Tunisian Ambassador and the Third Secretary at the Russian Embassy in Jordan. The ceremony was also attended by a considerable number of members of the Chinese community residing in Jordan, and Jordanian citizens.
The ceremony commenced with the playing of the national anthems of the People's Republic of China and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. This was followed by the opening speech, given by His Excellency the Chinese Ambassador, in which he underlined the depth of the Chinese-Jordanian relations, given that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People's Republic of China and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
H.E. the Chinese Ambassador pointed out that the culture is one of the most important factors that defines a heritage and also serves to bring peoples closer, and he highlighted the significant role played by Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute in this connection.

Particularly through the establishment of TAG Confucius Institute, the first institute to be accredited by the Chinese government in Jordan whose mission is the teaching of Chinese language and culture.
During the ceremony, students and teachers of the Institute gave a magnificent performance portraying the Chinese heritage including songs, poetry, and a show of the Chinese Taiji a spiritual and physical activity which is widely practiced by the Chinese people.
Moreover, the Zhejiang Jianda Group performed the Opera "Wu", which is considered the oldest popular opera in China and is characterized by an abundance of melodies and music. With a history spanning more than 400 years ago, the Wu Opera has recently been added to the register of protected Intangible Cultural Heritage projects in the People’s Republic of China. The festival ended with a gala dinner that included a wide array of Chinese dishes.
